| With a new front end and its slim flushmounted V8 side marker lites, the old style rear side markers would look out of place..so.... I looked around at many cars in parking lots to find just the right replacements...'02 Pontiac Firebird will do just fine!! OEM Lotus ones are 1" high but there is a 1.25" hole in the rear bumper cover from the old lites, so had to go and find ones that were slightly higher in order not to have to fill in the hole on the urethane bumber cover...didn't want to hassle with that! The OEM Lotus ones are 8.25" long and these are 7.25" so not much of a difference...what I had to do was to fabricate brackets out of .080 aluminum sheet stock so that the new lites could be anchored. I made my cut outs, epoxied a ss nut for the ss screw holding the lites...this bracket will be epoxied to the inner side of the bumper cover. The lite will be inserted and screwed down, and if my hand is steady when I cut out the bumper cover :-), a miniscule bead of black silicone adhesive sealant around the lite will complete the job. The inner boot which goes from the body to the lite base can be reused as is...the lite bulb socket will be inserted thru the existing access hole in the rear compartment. |
